Food pyramid

The food pyramid provides basic information regarding food groups in a picturesque and simple manner to help us plan a balanced diet.

Help welcome

The pyramid can help you plan your daily menu providing you enough energy, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and fibres you need to overcome your daily psychophysical strains.
This generally accepted food pyramid was created by experts at World Health Organization (WHO).

Understanding the food pyramid

The food groups in the pyramid are divided into sections; the larger the section is, the higher the percentage of daily intake should be. The foods placed at the top of the pyramid should be consumed in smaller quantities and less frequently whereas the foods placed at the bottom of the pyramid can be consumed in larger quantities and more often. The position of the foods in the pyramid is determined by their nutritional value. Sweets, for example, are high in calories yet contain very few or no vitamins and minerals and are therefore placed at the top of the pyramid.
The background of the pyramid is based on the traffic lights approach. Foods classed as green should be eaten frequently, foods classed as amber should be eaten in limited amounts and foods classed as red should only be eaten occasionally and in very small quantities.

Where in the pyramid is the poultry meat?

Poultry is placed in the centre of the pyramid and is, according to WHO recommendations, among the most appropriate types of meat to be consumed more frequently, together with fish. We are of course referring to the lean poultry parts. Experts recommend poultry for its favourable nutritional values, as it is a rich source of proteins, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats.

Quality above all else

The pyramid can be used as a guideline to help you choose the food groups. However, bear in mind that everything you consume should be healthy and of high quality, which particularly applies to meat. Only high quality healthy food is the source of all nutrients that made experts decide on its position in the pyramid.
